What affects the cost of veneers

We don't quote veneers before we've seen your smile, because the total depends on a few things only an exam can tell us. Here's what they are.

Medically reviewed by Dr. Rodolfo Rodriguez, DMD · Updated

What changes the total

  • How many veneers. Two front teeth, or every tooth that shows when you smile.
  • Porcelain or composite. Composite usually costs less up front; porcelain holds its color and polish for many more years.
  • Which ceramic. Most of our veneers are e.max, a strong, translucent ceramic; for some smiles, feldspathic porcelain or zirconia suits better.
  • What comes first. Whitening, Invisalign, gum contouring, or treating decay or gum disease before the veneers are made.
  • What each tooth needs. Some teeth need very little shaping; others need more to look natural.
  • Your bite. If you grind your teeth, a night guard protects the porcelain and is part of the plan.

Comparing quotes

When you have more than one quote, check that each includes the same things: the number of veneers, the material, who makes them, temporaries while you wait, a night guard if you need one, and follow-up visits. A lower number for fewer veneers, or for composite instead of porcelain, is not a lower price for the same smile.

Made with our in-house ceramist

Your veneers are designed with our in-house ceramist, who works here in the office. Shape, length and the subtle shifts of color from edge to gum are worked out for your face — see porcelain veneers.

Insurance and financing

Veneers are usually considered cosmetic, so dental plans rarely cover them. Most patients spread the cost with financing. We work with:

Where to start

With a consultation. We'll talk about the smile you'd like, look at your teeth, gums and bite, and give you a written plan with the total.

FAQs

Why don't you list a price per veneer?
Because the number of veneers, the material and what needs doing first all change the total. After your consultation you get a written plan with the full cost.
Are composite veneers cheaper?
Usually, up front. Composite is softer, stains and chips more easily and needs touching up more often; porcelain holds its color and polish. Read porcelain vs composite veneers.
